INTUITION from Mithilesh Sarode on Vimeo.

Intuition is an interactive art installation that tries to explore the idea of making someone aware of their intuitive decisions. In our day to day lives, we take innumerable intuitive decisions and, at the same time, remain unaware of all these. More we are exposed to our environment, more we become familiar with it. In other words, the environment becomes more intuitive to us. Through our experiences and observation of our environment we build our knowledge which over a period of time becomes part of our intuition. Unlike the conscious part of out brains, intuition is much faster in decision making but lacks at logical analysis of the situation. We tend to take these quick decisions at every instance of time, be it walking, cycling, opening the door, picking up a glass, filling it with water and so on without even being consciously aware of how we are doing it.

The aim of the artist here is to make the user aware of his/her intuition. One way to do this is by contradiction. Imagine, you are walking towards a door and see the handle on its left edge, you pull the door and the door opens to the same side as the handle. This contradiction between action and reaction makes the user aware of his/her intuition. In the above video, when the user looks at the box, its shape, size and material will hint the user what he/she can expect inside the box. But the intuition of the user is constantly contradicted at every interaction that he/she has with the box. Like, once the box opens, it never closes again. The closing of one door of the box opens up another one. Similarly, the user also finds an infinitely long tunnel in one of the faces. Finally, the installation breaks apart revealing that all the meaning making of our environment is a creation of our brain.
